Scottish Region
25 September 2005
Thank you for visiting the Scottish page of the B.F.C. website. We currently have 140 members in the Scottish Group and we meet twice a year for business and social reasons. We normally organise a number of field meetings between October and March each year thanks to our active members who offer their own flying land for such events. We have have five field meetings planned between October and December and it is anticipated that we will have a few more after the New Year.
The 2004/5 season was an exception. In recognition of the important role Scotland plays in the art, history and practice of falconry, the Scottish Group of the B.F.C. planned, organised and delivered the biggest falconry event ever held in Scotland. The first BFC Scottish International event for our members and their guests was based in the excellent three star Swallow Hotel in Dundee. 11 venues from the mountains and glens of Angus and Perthshire to the coastal flat lands of North East Fife provided spectacular scenery and challenging sport and we were blessed with perfect weather (see summary below). During the summer of 2005, we hosted two promotional stands - one at the Game Conservancy Scottish Fair at Scone Palace and the Scottish Countryside Alliance Scotland's Festival at Glamis Estate and we had a static display of birds at Glamis which attracted large crowds. Committee Members and Members worked well and helped to inform and advise newcomers to the sport and those who were interested to learn more, and a number of new members joined the Club at these events. The BFC Scottish Group produces its own regional newsletter, 'The Scottish Group News’, which is sent to members twice a year and is our main communication media, augmented by a more frequent 'Scottish Group e-News' distributed to members on email. The elected Regional Committee comprises a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Regional Representative, Field Meeting Co-ordinator and Fundraising Co-ordinator. All Committee Members and Officers of the Club are volunteers who give their time and expertise freely to maintain and develop the sport of falconry. The annual Club membership subscription is used to fund events, publications, insurance, etc. at a national and international level and we raise our own regional funds to bring additional benefits to Scottish Group members.
If you would like to know more about the Scottish Regional Group of the B.F.C., please feel free to email the Regional Secretary by using the button at the foot of the page. We look forward to hearing from you.
