North West

The North West region of the British Falconers’ Club holds regular monthly meetings at Briars Hall Hotel, Lathom, Lancashire.

The meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month, starting at 19:30 for 20:00.

Non-members and guests are more than welcome to attend. There is a buffet style meal included in the £3:00 subs.

We regularly have a guest speaker giving talks on falconry related subjects.

Longwing field meeting 2010

October 20, 2010

Longwing Coordinators Report

Saturday 2nd October was a red letter day for the Northwest Longwing Group

We were blessed by excellent weather, plenty of game and most of the falcons flew very well.

Everyone got at least 2 flights with no false flushes  and most unusually for a such a large group on a longwing day absolutely every falconer took game.

We finished the day with a bag of 9 head as follows :

Michael Moore ( Gyr / Peregrine Tiercel Hybrid ) – Brace of Red Legged Partridge

Phil Ashley ( Pere / Saker Tiercel ) – Grey Partridge

The remaining six falconers took one red legged partridge each as follows:

Peter Wall ( Tiercel Peregrine )

Richard Newton ( Gyr /Peregrine Tiercel )

Tony Armstrong ( Female Peregrine )

Ellis Phythian ( Gyr /Peregrine Tiercel )

Bob Wolstencroft ( Gyr / Barbary Female )

Barry Charlton ( Peales Peregrine Female )

Big thanks go to Knowsley Estates for inviting the Group to Fly once again . In particular we would like to thank Roy Tickle ( The Head keeper): and particularly to Joe Seiga (Keepers agent ) who worked exceedingly hard to provide some excellent sport

Thanks also to Mick Sharrock for some sterling dog work with his young German Wirehaired Pointer and for producing several of the points and flushes

Alan Gates, Eagle-falconer Presentation

February 17, 2010

The North West region hosted, Alan Gates on the 23rd February, at our usual venue, Briars Hall, Lathom, Lancashire. (L40 5TH)

Alan shared his experiences with the Eagles that have played such a huge part of his life. There were some great images and even a few of our regional members in their younger days.

The evening was a great success and judging from the reaction in the room the talk was very well received. I’m sure we’ll be seeing Alan again in the future for the next instalment.
