Grouse date, North Yorks 2011

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Dear All

Just an update to advise that the grouse date scheduled for next month (date unconfirmed yet) is now fully subscribed. Thanks to everyone who contacted PJ after the last regional meeting. Can I apologise for the delay in confirming the date, as some of you may know this season has been an exceptionally productive year for grouse and shoot dates have been extended as a result. This is making it very tight for slotting in our day. If the individuals who have put their names down are available for a mid week date please make this known to both myself and PJ please as this would help immensley with scheduling the date.

October Meeting report

Monday, October 10th, 2011

Dear All

Just a quick thank you to everyone who came along to the meeting on Thursday. Our guest speaker Brian Morris provided an excellent presentation about training, working and trialling his setters. It was good to see new faces and some old boys too. We had a good turn out of around 30  people and the night was very enjoyable with a good positive feel to it. Our new Chairman Brian Greaves announced the new beginning for the group with emphasis on new field meets – both long wing and short, and the extra effort towards creating a good environment for newcomers and emphasis on providing more Harris hawk meets etc. A new found optimism was in the air and so I would encourage anyone who has felt a bit out of the picture to start coming back to meetings as there are some great ideas and plans in the offing. Two grouse dates are scheduled as are a number of broad and shortwing meets. Please phone or send your details to the respective meet co-ordinators to register your interest so that you can be contacted when these meets are arranged. The website will be updated regularly from now on so keep watching this space. I would also like to make a list of members email addresses so that everyone can be kept up to speed with meetings, guests etc so email me please with your details. Good hawking!

2011 Game Fair Season

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

The Scottish Region attended two of the main game fairs in Scotland, Scone and Glamis, and also the Scottish Falconry Festival at Blair Drummond during 2011. The weather was kind to us at Scone and Glamis, but unfortunately Blair Drummond met with one of the wettest days of the year, and attendance was hit as a result.

These days are a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and also to chat with the general public and give them a greater understanding of what our sport involves, and is a good PR opportunity.

We signed up a number of new members at this year’s events, the experienced falconers outnumbering the beginners for a change, so it is good to see such knowledge and experience joining (and re-joining) the Club.

Special mention should be made regarding the hard work Geoff, Rob, Richard and Martyn put in at Glamis, where a raffle was held with a prize of a days hawking, raising over £300 – well done guys!

At Scone, Geoff Clayton was presented with a framed Andrew Ellis print of a golden eagle chasing a rabbit, in recognition, and as a sign of our appreciation, of all his hard work in building up and running the BFC Scottish Region over many years. Geoff retired as Scottish Region Chairman earlier this year.

Work is currently underway to compile the 2011 fieldmeet list and this will be published in due course. Venues are always sought and anyone who is able to provide a suitable venue should get in touch with any committee member.
